History’s Footprints
Footprints of new
footprints of old
history follows
stories are told.
Following clues
like fossils and bones
things people wrote
things people owned.
They’re put in museums
in library stacks
taught in our schools
some are brought back.
History’s footprints
they show us the way
the way things were done
the way people played.
Everything is copied
from something before
so follow those footsteps
you’ll want to know more.

Nothing new under the sun…Yet we can’t move forward without searching where we’ve been…Nice work!

Studying history can often help us understand the present…though much of history we would never want to repeat. I enjoyed your lesson in history today, Bekkie. :~)

Yes, Hitler comes to mind immediately as something NOT to repeat. Thanks for your visit and comment Gayle.

Such a wonderful poem! I love thinking about history, and all the people that came before us. You’ve captured the feeling just right. 🙂

I enjoyed reading this, Bekkie. Most of us have experienced watching where the tracks of the famous would lead. I especially liked your closing thought, follow those footsteps you’ll want to know more.

This reminds me of the phrase ‘nothing new under the sun’. History does have a way of repeating itself and you’ve captured that idea here in footprints. 🙂

There’s another that says, “Everything is a copy of a copy,” or something like that they are all true. Thanks for your visit and thoughts PC!

“Following clues
like fossils and bones” My son’s favorite are dinosaurs of course, but yes, this is so true. But do we have the ability to interpret them correctly and learn from them?

Not always Margaret that’s a good point! The more they find the better they can interpret I think. They have been wrong only to correct themselves later. As technology grows we produce more tools to find the truth.
