Nine Lives
watching the sunset
fog sneaks in over the bay
on tiny cat feet
under small bushes
the cat becomes a panther
silently stalking prey
ignored by a cat
nothing makes one feel
more rejected
contented purring
a peaceful heart
a happy cat
words left unspoken
leaves things broken
cat got your tongue?
coming in late
look what the cat dragged in
don’t blame the cat
stroking a cat
the best relaxation
a furry zen master
a cat has nine lives
we only go around once
make it count
a beloved cat
is man’s best friend
the dog would argue

Written with Haiku Horizons.
All of my favorite cats that I’ve had the pleasure to cross paths with were black cats.
They have wonderful temperaments and always remind me of funny old characters from a well read book.
When I was little, my neighbor had a female black cat that acted like an old grandma watching over us as we played around the house.
I always imagined her with tiny spectacles perched on her nose and a small shawl draped around her shoulders.
She would meow loudly at us if we got out of hand or were being too rough with eachother.
If anyone fell and got hurt she’d hurry over and purr and cuddle with them while they got first aid. Lol
I should write a story book about her.
Hmmmmm….Thanks Bekkie!

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you for loving a black cat! There aren’t enough black cat lovers out there…the best cats temperment-wise in my unofficial opinion. 😀
Okay, I soooooooo Absolutely enjoyed your Haikus and your awesome pic animation of your kitty.
Oh, my goodness so relateable with the ignored by a cat haiku. 😮
Lovely and fun reads!
Thank you. 😀

Wow, look at all these haiku. I love the first three – the first one for the simile and the other two because they capture different aspects of cat. Great stuff!

Glad you enjoyed them, Sonya! I’m coming to read yours too.
So flash fiction? I like to write FF too sometimes. How long have you been writing poetry?

My pleasure! I’ve started writing poetry again in the last ten months – I drifted towards it because of the flash fiction. I’m a shoddy poet but I like playing around with language 🙂

I don’t think you’re a shoddy poet! If I can’t think of a poem I’ll write FF instead but don’t have any on this site. I like playing with words too, so much fun either way!
