A Feather

A Feather

I am,
a feather in the wind.
Riding the air currents
in a downward spiral
coming to rest
in the dew-drenched grass.

I was,
a feather on the wing.
Witnessing the violent life
of a bird of prey
then pulled free
I floated down.

I’m now,
a feather lining a nest.
Protecting blue eggs
chosen by a robin
promises of new life
peacefully belonging.
