The Lost Masterpiece
An artist surveys the picturesque scene below
picking up his brush he hesitates;
The night sky above was glorious
he’d never seen so many colors of blue
dotted with light billowy clouds
covered by a never-ending Milky Way.
A sleepy town lay in the valley
nestled between mountain peaks
joined by meadows of yellow flowers
a small sliver of moon watching over all.
The bell in the church steeple rang out
when all was quiet, an owl asked; “Who? Who?”
The artist didn’t know
his canvas as blank as his mind.

This poem was written for a Magpie photo prompt in 2014. Shared here for the first time from Picturesque Words and linked with my friends at Poets United.
The poet doth capture the scene better than the artist!! Excellent Miss Bekkie! ☺

I wonder if a painter can ever capture it better than what a poet does with words.

Thank you, Julian! You made me aware that there was a mistype in that I meant “rang out” not “ran out.” Glad you stopped by.

Even though the painter has no clue, but your words have painted a perfect picture!

Fascinating imagery. I have experienced moments where the mind is trying to catch up to the moment.

You painted a nice picture with words of the painter painting a picture.

Wow, that painting is beautiful. An artist would find it hard to do it justice, but am glad he tried, as the result is lovely. I enjoyed the poem, Bekkie.

That painting is supposed to be Vango painting the Starry Night. If WP was like Blogger you’d be able to enlarge the prompt and see that it looks just like the town he painted. Thank you, Sherry!

You have brought that photo to life with your words, Bekkie! It is sad to read the ending though – with the artist’s canvas as blank as his mind!
