World Under My Wheels

The world runs under my wheels
I watch it go by from my saddle
north, south, east, west
I ride whichever way I feel.

My peddling is rhythmic and even
like meditation, it moves me
from here to there I fly
I concentrate on my breathing.

My bicycle makes me feel blest
it doesn’t pollute or damage
people smile as they watch me pass
and I smile back refreshed.

Written for my friends at earthweal open link weekend #11. I decided on an upbeat new poem about something that always cheers me up.

springtime
the love of my life-
a bicycle

I’m a dedicated cyclist and ride on the Bay Trail near San Mateo, CA. The Bay Trail is slated to run a paved trail around the whole length of the San Francisco Bay. There are many areas unfinished that run on gravel, dirt, and city streets but large parts of it can be enjoyed right now without the worry of cars or traffic. This is my territory!

February 20th was my Biking Anniversary! Four years of riding my hybrid 20-30 miles every other day year-round. I’m not an athlete but consider myself a serious cyclist with a love of all things biking. I do it for the health benefits and child-like enjoyment I experience every time I get on my bicycle.

I’m a self-made Bicycle Ambassador for the Bay Trail, many people know me on sight, and I write about my escapades on my website Bike With Bekkie. Visit me there for tips about biking, health, photography, and more!

These Moments I Hold Dear

Rolling away the passing years
it’s these moments I hold dear.

I will never have my fill
of watching wetlands as I glide
up and down the bayside hills.

My vintage bicycle as my guide
in the saddle time does fly
but I grow younger as I ride.

On my face you’ll find a grin
as nature heals my many ills
I find a wonderful peace within.

I feel renewed, I feel revived
all negativity left behind
I feel so good to be alive.

Rolling away the passing years
it’s these moments I hold dear.

Can you read my Tshirt?

Hello, my friends!

I’ve been riding my bicycle daily while taking photographs of my surroundings on the San Francisco Bay. I use my photos for my art and writing. The bike riding has been so nice the past few months it just began to get cold here in California. It feels a lot like Christmas today and I’m preparing to go on a Christmas Day ride with my long-time friend and roommate James.

I’ve missed you all and will be back next year to write. If anything, I am coming back rejuvenated and ready for the new year. I’m lucky enough to enjoy my biking year round and it keeps me fit and happy.

Merry Christmas my friends! My many “looks” as I do enjoy dressing for the ride. You can see how the weather has changed my looks.

I want to say Merry Christmas to my friends at Poets United, Imaginary Garden With Real Toads, and dVerse~Poets Pub I hope it was enjoyable. Merry Xmas to Haiku Horizons and the other places I drop into sometimes!

Thanks, dVerse~Poets Pub for including me in your analogy I hope to afford to buy one soon! I can’t wait to read more of the free version. My very first time in a book. It makes it real, you know?

Some of you I’ve known since Magpie Tales which was the beginning of linking with groups for me. Tess was a fun person and every week her boyfriend would read her poem for us. Tess had some “events” at her mansion and it was a memorable time. Tess Kincaid is doing well and living out a fairy tale ending in the UK with her “English Man.”

While writing in that group, people spread out to the above-mentioned groups and beyond. It’s nice to know we’re all as close as WordPress and Blogger moving in the same circles. We’re an impressive international group of writers I’m proud to be part of.

My Bicycle

My Bicycle

Everywhere I go
it goes too
it keeps me healthy
I’m never blue.

Two rubber wheels
they take me far
there’s no pollution
unlike a car.

It feels like flying
my spirit’s free
wind in my hair
the birds chase me.

It’s good for most everyone
young or gray
practice makes perfect
today’s the day!

My bicycle
can’t be outdone
it keeps me young
while having fun.

I took this selfie in a mirror window I pass by during my rides on the Bay Trail in the San Mateo, CA area. I bike 20-30 miles every other day taking photographs of nature it keeps me happy, healthy and young. Late in winter biking by
I heard a piercing skyward cry
I saw a large bird in the sky
an eagle looked me in the eye
I stopped a spell to watch it fly.

As I continued on my way
along the San Francisco Bay
the waters being calm that day
I watched the shorebirds interplay
stalking the waters for their prey.

I talk, write and live bicycles because it’s made me so healthy and happy. I ride my bike from my apartment to the San Francisco Bay Trail every other day. This is an area of woods, natural harbors, wetlands, tidal pools and all the creatures that live there. I often take photos and write about them like today.

The photographs (3 frames) were taken by James Graham (my roommate) and animated by me.

Written with dVerse~Poets Pub for Haibun Monday and shared with Imaginary Garden Of Real Toads for The Tuesday Platform. I see no reason why a haibun can’t rhyme, is there one?
