Reasons

Reasons

There are reasons for our seasons
as we watch for yearly clues
in the summer we have flowers
multicolored meadows viewed.

Then the trees turn glorious colors
dying leaves fall to the ground
before the burning bonfires end
winter’s come without a sound.

When the Crocuses start blooming
and I heed the robin’s call
spring will bring her wondrous renewal.
Good reasons for us all.

I wanted to write a poem about the seasons while naming them within the poem. There were a few versions of this before I finally got the words the way I wanted them and I’m happy with the way it turned out.

A past musing shared with my friends at Poets United.

Bird Bath Man

Bird Bath Man

Bathtub busted
Bill boldly bathed his body
in a broken bird bath
bare chested and bemused
his brilliant bobbing
was branded boring
by the boroughs.

I wrote about and animated this image for Magpie Tales. I just heard from Tess Kincaid recently on Facebook she’s taking a break from Magpie Tales and is currently working on a novel. Tess has several books of poetry to check out.

Flying

Flying

Flying
where am I?

I am traveling by your side
the sun acting as our guide
my emotions burning bright
like a scarlet sunset might
I felt lost behind this face
’till we leaped into this space
the clouds parted ways for me
now my vision’s clear, I see.

Flying
where am I?

Together
now we fly.

Little Birds

Little Birds

Little birds are on the wing
listen as they chirp and sing
feel the happiness they bring
building nests in early spring
soon to hold their hatchlings.

A little ditty for spring I’m looking forward to it.

Haibun #2717

Late in winter biking by
I heard a piercing skyward cry
I saw a large bird in the sky
an eagle looked me in the eye
I stopped a spell to watch it fly.

As I continued on my way
along the San Francisco Bay
the waters being calm that day
I watched the shorebirds interplay
stalking the waters for their prey.

I talk, write and live bicycles because it’s made me so healthy and happy. I ride my bike from my apartment to the San Francisco Bay Trail every other day. This is an area of woods, natural harbors, wetlands, tidal pools and all the creatures that live there. I often take photos and write about them like today.

The photographs (3 frames) were taken by James Graham (my roommate) and animated by me.

Written with dVerse~Poets Pub for Haibun Monday and shared with Imaginary Garden Of Real Toads for The Tuesday Platform. I see no reason why a haibun can’t rhyme, is there one?

The Old House

The Old House

The old house was old
older than it could remember
the souls who built it
long gone
children’s toys scattered about
everything there as they had left it.

Now the roof was half caved in
the smell of mildew and defeat
permeated the grounds
as the rain soaked wood
expanded painfully.

The old house dearly missed them
groaning and creaking-
it was almost over
the house thought.

Just then…
footsteps on the porch
as a fawn and its mother came inside
birds made nests in exposed rafters
as small animals followed
finding shelter.

The old house had found a new purpose
and happily settled for it

Change doesn’t always happen when we expect it or is how we expect it to be but don’t be afraid because change brings new things into our lives.
