Watching me
watching you
pupils dilate-
peekaboo!

Eyes that judge
fill with tears
smiling eyes
eyes that fear.

Expressive eyes
when words may fail
kiss with a look
they tell the tale.

Showing the world
how we feel
windows to the soul
secrets revealed.

Body language
has nothing on eyes
what you see inside
can’t be denied.

Written with my friends at The Sunday Muse #98 for this image prompt. While writing this I had to fight the urge to Dr. Seuss out. To be fair, I also had the David Bowie song Eyes Without A Face in my head so I’m lucky I came up with this. Lol!

Romantic Keys

Romantic Keys

Going solo is never easy
he didn’t have time to orchestrate
their meeting impromptu
the right keys were struck
their lovemaking an improvisation
his technique professional-
yet expressive.

She called him a virtuoso
it was like a fantasy
he felt it was reminiscent of a song
delicate nuances were there
but he was unprepared for romance
he preferred to play solo.

I looked up Frédéric Chopin (because it was on the music sheet) and seeing the beautiful woman by the piano decided to use the words I found about him and his music for a “found poem.”

Written for The Sunday Muse #97 for this image.

Seed By Seed

Seed By Seed

Pushing through the rocky soil
instinctively knowing which way to go
a single seed in an age-old plan
stirs inside and starts to grow.

Each containing a miracle
knowledge inside, ready to guide
seasons come and seasons go
sowing seeds both far and wide.

Once we’re born our journeys began
putting our roots down as we need
we grow profusely in our gardens-
all of this from a single seed.

This poem sure did go around with me but I finally finished it. Please excuse my cosmic use of seed and stuff. Lol! Written with my friends from Poets United for the prompt, Gardens.

My back is out so I can’t ride my bike right now. (Sad emoji here.) I realize I haven’t written in some time but I’ve been in touch with most of you on Facebook and such. Just dipping my toes back in the water. I enjoyed this prompt for the beginning of summer. Be around to read of course! Happy Summer! (I’m definitely a person who uses too many “!”)

The Understanding

The Understanding

I know you…
that form
your many moods
how you make me feel.

I know you…
your sense of humor
your timing
your rhyme and reason.

I know you…
because our understanding
runs deep
poetry lives in me.

Poetry lives in us.

Last Goodbye

imageedit_27_3000804293Last Goodbye

Every single cell in me
can identify what I lack…
the only man I ever loved.
(Now I can’t win you back!)

A lover like no other
you turned out to be
my extraordinary man…
who saw something, in me.

But now you love her!
I don’t know how I lost…
please forgive me my sins
and this line I have crossed.

Now you’re dead where you lay-
the crime fits like a glove.
But I feel so much better,
“Goodbye now, my love.”

I took an older poem that had punctuation to link with my friends at dVerse~Poets Pub. I took some time off from writing and am slowly dipping my toes back into the poetry river. I believe in using punctuation and use it in my poems something I started a long time ago when a friend convinced me.

Synapic Self

Synaptic Self

I am my synaptic self
my synapses are me
they have the nerve
they make the connections
they are the “who” in me.

“You are your synapses. They are who you are.” Joseph LeDoux

This was a found poem written about our synapses and what this guy (who studied them) said about them. I just found it interesting that this chemical reaction makes us who we are.

Happiness

Happiness

Happiness is emotional
simple in its beginnings
endorphins fill my brain
muscles relax
others tense
pulling at the corners of my mouth
sounds escape my lips
as childish giggles.

Happiness is addictive
good times amplified
one beaming smile
spreading across many faces
we feel giddy
makes us fall in love
it makes the world go round
it’s better when shared.

Happiness is temporary
we’d like it to last forever
still, it leaves us
without warning
but when we least expect it
someone smiles
and it reminds us
that it’s just around the corner.

Happiness never lasts but that doesn’t mean we’ll never be happy again. We never know what will make us smile. Artwork animated by me.
