The Door

The Door

It was only a door
so why did I feel
such foreboding?
Surely I’ve approached
one hundred doors like it
in my lifetime.
The knocker looked heavy
and lions guarded it
with somber faces.
The door looked at me
the mail slot
a tense mouth.
A camera eyed me
blankly remote.
Was someone
already watching?

Written with my friends at The Sunday Muse #100 for the photo prompt. I usually think of what the picture is and how it makes me feel. In this case, I was thinking about how the door perceived me without human contact.

Senryu #242020

giphy (9)

The news is filled with stories about disappearing species. As species die and people crowd to see the last ones, we end up wiping out the rest of them and their habitats along with other species who happen to be in the way.  How can we be so arrogant to not consider this or anything else we do as a race to this planet? We are the creatures with the most developed brains but what do we do? We want what we want and to hell with whatever gets in our way.

big brains
bigger footprints
biggest ego

A person photographing the stars also shows the movement of fireflies on a summer night. From Giphy.

I wrote this after reading about Fireflies and their habitats disappearing due to light pollution and encroachment.

Seed By Seed

Seed By Seed

Pushing through the rocky soil
instinctively knowing which way to go
a single seed in an age-old plan
stirs inside and starts to grow.

Each containing a miracle
knowledge inside, ready to guide
seasons come and seasons go
sowing seeds both far and wide.

Once we’re born our journeys began
putting our roots down as we need
we grow profusely in our gardens-
all of this from a single seed.

This poem sure did go around with me but I finally finished it. Please excuse my cosmic use of seed and stuff. Lol! Written with my friends from Poets United for the prompt, Gardens.

My back is out so I can’t ride my bike right now. (Sad emoji here.) I realize I haven’t written in some time but I’ve been in touch with most of you on Facebook and such. Just dipping my toes back in the water. I enjoyed this prompt for the beginning of summer. Be around to read of course! Happy Summer! (I’m definitely a person who uses too many “!”)

The Understanding

The Understanding

I know you…
that form
your many moods
how you make me feel.

I know you…
your sense of humor
your timing
your rhyme and reason.

I know you…
because our understanding
runs deep
poetry lives in me.

Poetry lives in us.

Last Goodbye

imageedit_27_3000804293Last Goodbye

Every single cell in me
can identify what I lack…
the only man I ever loved.
(Now I can’t win you back!)

A lover like no other
you turned out to be
my extraordinary man…
who saw something, in me.

But now you love her!
I don’t know how I lost…
please forgive me my sins
and this line I have crossed.

Now you’re dead where you lay-
the crime fits like a glove.
But I feel so much better,
“Goodbye now, my love.”

I took an older poem that had punctuation to link with my friends at dVerse~Poets Pub. I took some time off from writing and am slowly dipping my toes back into the poetry river. I believe in using punctuation and use it in my poems something I started a long time ago when a friend convinced me.

Day Of Discovery

that day of discovery
waiting in line to change-
back into myself

Not really a senryu, meant to be micro-poetry, hence the title. I animated the artwork I wrote it about for fun.

For anyone reading this Past Musing (thank you, BTW,) I took a long break from writing recently. Either you know this because I used to write with you or you don’t because you’re just visiting. I’m going to ease back into writing real soon but first I have some old work to clean up and transfer here from a site I’m shutting down. Chances are you have never seen the work I’m transferring so check it out. New (fresh) work coming soon. Hugs all around!

Enigmatic Me

Enigmatic Me

Forever is a long time
tomorrow never comes
yesterday is so far away
I waste my time
and that’s a crime.

Destiny goes unfulfilled
the shape of things to come
the lottery is never won
fate knows the score
forevermore.

My lifeline tells me nota
my fortune can’t be rushed
good things take time
to ascertain
so an enigma I’ll remain.

nota=slang for nothing

My life remains a puzzle slowly coming together with pieces bent and missing that may be lost for good. How would I know?

Sharing a poem of choice with my friends at Poets United.
