Last Goodbye

imageedit_27_3000804293Last Goodbye

Every single cell in me
can identify what I lack…
the only man I ever loved.
(Now I can’t win you back!)

A lover like no other
you turned out to be
my extraordinary man…
who saw something, in me.

But now you love her!
I don’t know how I lost…
please forgive me my sins
and this line I have crossed.

Now you’re dead where you lay-
the crime fits like a glove.
But I feel so much better,
“Goodbye now, my love.”

I took an older poem that had punctuation to link with my friends at dVerse~Poets Pub. I took some time off from writing and am slowly dipping my toes back into the poetry river. I believe in using punctuation and use it in my poems something I started a long time ago when a friend convinced me.

I Scream

I Scream

Darkness led me into sin
cause I invited Darkness in
my loneliness drove me astray
and I had thought it child’s play.

Wrapped inside his macabre wings
I heard the Darkness whispering,
”You’ll never be away from me,
with me for all eternity.”

The Darkness knew me like a glove
replacing hate where once was love
chuckling as it emptied me
drinking deep with empathy.

If I had lived the way I should
if I had stronger will I could
but Darkness won and reigns supreme
and I? I scream a mouthless scream!

Broken

Broken

My heart breaks when I watch what’s happening in the world today
we have truly lost our minds in America letting ourselves be treated like cattle
being herded in whatever direction the political wind blows
we’ve given up, even if it leads us to the slaughterhouse
the invisible lines that separate us are turning into Trump-like walls
our history has taught us nothing as racial tensions separate us further respect for the people that protect us is gone, replaced by mistrust fueled by violence and ignorance
men are still in power pushing their sexual agendas on their victims
keeping women under their thumb as they get less pay for the same jobs
the house and senate don’t care about the people’s will, it’s all about their own agendas
our government is corrupt, greedy and we let them get away with it
cell phones have invaded the earth and people are transfixed by them
social interaction online has taken the place of real friendship
growing homeless camps are ignored and tolerated rather than helped
we think we’re paying taxes for a good cause then the money is spent elsewhere and we’re taxed for it again
although half of the people living now are 65, they can’t work because the jobs are given to younger people
they face higher costs for living every year while the retirement age goes up and benefits get cut
we pay a fortune for insurance many going without when other countries have health care for all
even with insurance many go without glasses, dental care and more
simple kindness and decency seem lost while our jails and prisons open their doors letting felons out for good behavior
we are losing touch with each other and we don’t know who to trust letting fear paralyze us
it’s difficult to know how to proceed when the psyche of countless people in our country are bruised and we’re bleeding out
I did as I’ve been told the system has let me down and I feel taken advantage of.

Some believe the soul is immortal, even so, our bodies are limited
we’re only here once and should be enjoying what this wonderful planet has to offer
instead, this is what we sow, this is how we spend this precious time
we vote and hope for a better life only to be fed fake news and tricked into submission
country against country, race against race, religion against religion-it never ends
right now, children are starving, being raped and abused, put into slavery, taught to shoot guns and carry bombs
my heart breaks when I watch what’s happening to the people of this world,
when do we say, how do we say,
777777777777777777AAAAAAAAAAAenough!

I’m a fan of brevity in poetry but this poem practically wrote itself and could have been longer. I don’t pretend to have the answers but I do know these things are going to take more than time to get better. History will show that’s usually through violence and war. We need to be strong and make ourselves heard through numbers.

Still

Still

Reasoning gone
I sit in my terror
crushing problems
suffocating me.

I sit still.

Too tired to try
I sit in this dump
it’s never enough
always my fault.

Still, I sit.

Everything ruined
I sit enraged
anger unhinged
I want to break it!

I sit still.

I’m so dumb
I sit in my filth
steeped in hate
deep in my dread-

still.

Even though I wrote this in 2013 it applies to today. This world is shocking us more every day as these historical times beat us down. It’s easy to feel there is nowhere to turn and no goodness left. With a president like Trump, the people are divided and fearful. To be fair, Trump didn’t start the problems we have but him getting elected just proved to me (once again) that our system doesn’t work. In my lifetime of voting, I have never been happy with the results. Even if the people I voted for got elected they never got anything done. Promises are always broken and I pay for more today than ever. Being a woman, I make less than men and am expected to ignore that fact and carry on. WTF!???  We are the only country that doesn’t have a healthcare system for everyone. People don’t get to keep their teeth or see clearly because these aren’t always covered under insurance. That is insane! We are overbuilding on land we shouldn’t be building on in the first place (maybe we wouldn’t have so many floods) and none of the new housing is for the middle-class or poor. Endangered animals can be killed because we need the land. Most of the problems we are having in this country are due to our horrible, greedy, rich government officials who get fatter pork bellies daily by screwing the majority of its citizens. Republicans have the majority and what has happened? Nothing! They don’t want to do their highly paid jobs. I think we should get rid of this system and the deadbeats in it and rebuild our government for the real good of the people. Get rid of them and we may have a chance to do some really great things in America.

Let’s stop pointing fingers and fighting each other. Aren’t we over color and race in 2017? Bullying other people and feeling superior to them? This petty shit has got to stop we are ALL getting screwed. We need to come together as Americans and protest TOGETHER. This is how they keep us knuckled under!! This is why the terrorists can get to us so easily. Of course, what do I know?

Loss

Loss

Stark raving emptiness streams
into the screaming void
I used to recognize,

as me.

My heart’s locked up tight
while loss floods me
under a raging river of uncertainty.

I choke on mouthfuls of regret
gasping for air
while floundering in the inky darkness
my mind squirming like a toad.

Those left behind
prime a minefield of hate and lies
each one taking another limb
my memories are bleeding out.

I can find no closure
leaving me,

lost.

This is about the loss of a parent and what can happen with the siblings/others left behind and how it affects them. The artwork is mine.

All Lives Matter

imageedit_22_6255059059

All Lives Matter

We have a problem
a lack of control
no damn respect
it’s taking a toll.

Police should protect
uphold the peace
do the right thing
shootings must cease.

Murder in the streets
the people are scared
the unarmed killed
lawmen impaired.

Citizens taking
the law in their hands
acting like terrorists
we must take a stand.

People picking sides
prejudice must end
dividing by color
the message it sends.

There’s power in numbers
we all must unite
Americans together
protecting our rights.

All lives matter
no matter the race
whatever the color
wherever the birthplace.

An absence of conscience
we need to stop now
killing one another
we just can’t allow.

The Twist

bekkieisbekkie

The Twist

I took the bait
a twist of fate
there was too much
heaped on my plate
it’s now too late
to clean the slate
the twist it made
me turn to hate.
A real bad trait
I’m that low-rate
in a terrible state.
