Romantic Keys

Romantic Keys

Going solo is never easy
he didn’t have time to orchestrate
their meeting impromptu
the right keys were struck
their lovemaking an improvisation
his technique professional-
yet expressive.

She called him a virtuoso
it was like a fantasy
he felt it was reminiscent of a song
delicate nuances were there
but he was unprepared for romance
he preferred to play solo.

I looked up Frédéric Chopin (because it was on the music sheet) and seeing the beautiful woman by the piano decided to use the words I found about him and his music for a “found poem.”

Written for The Sunday Muse #97 for this image.

Valentine’s Day
in the lonely hearts club-
I love myself

© Rebecca Sanchez 2020

Sometimes the lonely hearts club is all one has. This year, however, I found someone to love. Someone who’s been there for me for decades (as I was for him.) We recently became a serious couple. One day the last piece in the love puzzle fell into place. We are overjoyed.

I Need It

I Need It

Where’s my happily ever after?
Why can love no longer find me?

This is the time, the renewal
it’s spring and each year is more
I want to be a part of it
I need it.

I want to be loved and treasured
I’m alone too much
it makes me lonely
life balances better with two.

I search for someone to love
that really cares about my day
someone to keep me sane
in this uncaring world.

Sharing a quiet morning with them
food, talk and laughter
heart and soul
a mutual touch so satisfying
I shudder to think of it.

A Four Letter Word

A Four Letter Word

Love.
It’s
a four
letter word
that leaves us wanting.
It gives us such heavenly bliss
we taste its sweet nectar on our lips and lose ourselves.
We move together as one and become drunk with love while acting out our passion play.
Writhing in tangled sheets, we know no boundaries as we come together and experience the ecstasy of a simple four letter word.

Happy Valentine’s Day! I just got over being sick again this year. I missed some writes and reading of takes but I’m feeling much better now. Thanks for your patience!

I decided on a Fibonacci for the prompt word at Poets United this week. I’m also linking with the Imaginary Garden With Real Toads for the Tuesday Platform.

The Murder

The Murder

It was a murder
perfected and performed
flashes of black
diving after scurrying figures
nowhere to hide
the violence
silent and quick.

A high scream
pierced the autumn air
flesh torn from bone
blood gushing forth
eyes glazing
as the heart stops
extremities twitching.

When all is picked clean
the killers move on
some bodies are carried away
most are never found
all of it murder.

Some call it survival
the others-
nevermore.

I wrote this about my animated photo of crows taken on a bicycle ride.

High Expectations

High Expectations

High in the sky
I sit and spy
I see a unicorn
floating by
as a rabbit
comes to play
they spin
and swirl
and move away.

High in the sky
I sit and spy
only eagles
soaring by
acrobatics
muscular wings
they dip
and dive
and my heart sings.

High in the sky
I sit and spy
expectations
running high
coming here
seeking peace
I feel the planet
loving me
a sweet release.

Written for the prompt “Rising Above” and linked with Poets United. With everything going crazy in this world today it’s good to find somewhere to reconnect with nature, to renew ourselves.

Photo found on a Google search: Preikestolen or Prekestolen is a famous tourist attraction in the municipality of Forsand in Rogaland county, Norway. Preikestolen is a steep cliff which rises 604 metres above the Lysefjorden.

Vanishing Act

Vanishing Act

She could never keep her feet on the ground
she preferred her head above the clouds
daydreams taking her far away
leaving the cruel world behind
to others, just an empty shell
but on the inside…

She could never understand her fate
born free only to become enslaved
told when and how to feel
how to act and what to do and say
a second class citizen with a womb
expected to be a selfless caretaker of others
as if one job that pays less than a man isn’t enough.

She could never find peace in vacations
everywhere she went was the same
people controlling and questioning
lines of strangers greedy and pushing
draining her money and energy
not that any amount could unshackle her.

She could never breakout of her prison
returning to a home that wasn’t hers
“things” that belonged more than she did
a life she couldn’t bear for another instant
the heavy weight of it took her breath away
her heart crushed like so much stardust.

She could never commit suicide
despite her unhappiness with it all
so enthralled by the heavens that night
she made a decision to travel once more
plucking the evening star to wear in her hair
she decorated her robe with the milky way
wearing the rings of Saturn as her crown
a sliver of moon topped her scepter
finally, all the universe was hers alone.

Daydreams taking her far away
never, never to return.

An old poem reworked with my animation from Magpie Tales and shared with Imaginary Garden Of Real Toads. This is about women and some of the thoughts we may share about being born a woman in a man’s world. Some of us may dream of vanishing but we all know that there’s more to life. Going crazy (or suicide) is not the answer but I feel for the women who can’t deal and hope they find the help they need.
