Goodbye Bruce

Goodbye Bruce

He had it all but was empty inside
accomplishing much but yet living a lie
an ongoing book that had pages to hide
now she’s the one in the public’s eye.

A handsome man and a top athlete
a public life filled with private grief
just ’cause you’re different it doesn’t delete
yourself intact-you look for relief.

Why do the Kardashians seem so surprised
the clothes and the clues were all there to see
no longer happy with gender disguised
Caitlyn begins her own history.

I have seen and read all about Bruce Jenner’s recent change and magazine cover. Caitlyn at 65 looks marvelous but it’s just an illusion that I find sad when realized it’s just the work of some well-paid doctors. I’m more interested in what doesn’t meet the eye and wish Caitlyn well.

First published today and shared with Poets United for the prompt gender. Many people are confused about gender these days. I can’t pretend to know what it’s like as I’ve always known I am a woman.

the kindness of strangers
the world relies on it-
we should not retreat

I coded this artwork so it’s different than my usual work.

I wrote this for Gillena’s CKK Anniversary kukai 2017 (retreat), Poet’s United (the kindness of strangers), and shared with Imaginary Garden Of Real Toads (the Tuesday platform.)

Faith

Faith

It took me some time
just most of my life
I found inner faith
but only through strife.

Not faith in the church
or political convictions
not faith in fellow man
they had serious restrictions.

When nothing else worked
I found faith in myself
worked hard to achieve it
what personal wealth!

Each day I renew
attached with no strings
just faith in myself-
the peace that it brings.

What can we have faith in these days when all else fails and the world goes crazy? Ourselves, every single day.

It’s My Song

It’s My Song

So beautiful and free
I felt just like that once
the world my Wonderland
and I could do no wrong.

Blinded by my youth
forever was my troth
until that mighty fall
into the rabbit hole.

Now that time has passed
my body bent with age
my mind keeps playing tricks,
a lie!
(I tell myself.)

Wondering

- THROUGH THE WINDOWS OF THE CATHEDRAL -.gif

Wondering

Early man
mastered his surroundings
pushed into lands beyond
wondering.
Why?

The age old question
curiosity encountered
(hopefully)
without killing the cat.

Inquiring minds want to know
filling in the lacunae
seeking to find meaning
in this life we’re thrust into.
Wondering…

There are more questions
than answers
there’s always one on our lips.

“Why?”

Black Sheep

Black Sheep

When and how did I become
the black sheep of the family
how can that even be
I gave my love without a fee
never took anything just for me
never sulked or disagreed
but now I know the bridges are burned
I will never get the love I hoped to earn.

When and how did I become
dead to my family
phone number taken off the wall
never getting any calls
the very first grandchild I be
so why was I unwilling to see
at family reunions, I was the absentee
slowly being separated from the family tree.

When and how did this ever start
living amongst a family that has no heart
now that both of my parents are dead
I got nothing so they could get ahead
all the horrible things done and said
all the days and nights filled with dread
I hope that someday I can accept and see
why my unsavory family doesn’t deserve me.

All Lives Matter

imageedit_22_6255059059

All Lives Matter

We have a problem
a lack of control
no damn respect
it’s taking a toll.

Police should protect
uphold the peace
do the right thing
shootings must cease.

Murder in the streets
the people are scared
the unarmed killed
lawmen impaired.

Citizens taking
the law in their hands
acting like terrorists
we must take a stand.

People picking sides
prejudice must end
dividing by color
the message it sends.

There’s power in numbers
we all must unite
Americans together
protecting our rights.

All lives matter
no matter the race
whatever the color
wherever the birthplace.

An absence of conscience
we need to stop now
killing one another
we just can’t allow.
