When Honesty Honestly Doesn’t Pay

What if a small lie…

Could help the truth slide by
help someone who’s gone astray
sometimes it’s just the best way.

What if the small lie…

Would help someone feel better
make the world a nicer place
save another person’s face.

Honesty is the key
it’s plain to see
it’s a great policy;
to some degree.

What if the truth hurts…

Just remember to keep it small
it can get you through another day
when honesty honestly doesn’t pay.

They

They

They || always have the last say
they || said so
they || are experts in every field
they || have it better than you
they || have what you want
they || know it all
they || know when you are sleeping
they || know when you’re awake
they || have it all figured out
they || always know the right words
they || always win
they || told me to do it
they || make the rules
they || are reading this now.

It’s always about “they” but who, or what are they?

I Need It

I Need It

Where’s my happily ever after?
Why can love no longer find me?

This is the time, the renewal
it’s spring and each year is more
I want to be a part of it
I need it.

I want to be loved and treasured
I’m alone too much
it makes me lonely
life balances better with two.

I search for someone to love
that really cares about my day
someone to keep me sane
in this uncaring world.

Sharing a quiet morning with them
food, talk and laughter
heart and soul
a mutual touch so satisfying
I shudder to think of it.

Inner Vison

Inner Vision

I pick my steps methodically
along an uneven cobblestone path
to find my secret sanctuary
under the wide-open sky
just my thoughts
memories
and I.

My inner visions guide me through life. No one else can hear or see them it’s a safe place to be. An animation of mine called Nature’s Heartbeat.

Written for the prompt vision with my friends at Poets United.

Unique

Unique

I like you cause you’re funny
intelligent and kind
good looking and hardworking
so distinctive, so refined.

I like you cause you’re honest
irreplaceable and rare
an exceptional type of person
the one who always cares.

I like you cause you’re different
it’s part of your mystique
you are just one of those people
so refreshingly unique.

Today is open link night at dVerse~Poets Pub and I’m sharing an older poem that could well be a greeting card for a friend. The image is an animation from a Google search.

Money

Money

Money, pays the rent
but before the month is over
all your money’s spent.

Money, not the most important thing
but if you don’t make enough
you’ll be living on a shoestring.

Money, some have it all
they’re treated like royalty
while we worship their beck and call.

Money, with it you can be president
beware of false prophets
you’ll be wondering where your money went.

Money, it’s just fancy paper
you can’t even eat it
yet it’s a world shaper.

Money, it’s something we all need
but if you can’t get a job
you cannot succeed.

Money, it doesn’t seem fair
its exhausting making ends meet
living on hope and a prayer.

Lines And Wrinkles

Lines And Wrinkles

I found a photograph
taken on my behalf
it was a moment seized
for which I’m unappeased
showing off my age
it sent me in a rage!

My eyes to me looked glazed
my wrinkled skin amazed
I hold to this belief
age causes most my grief.
