Dead Asleep

Dead Asleep

Every night
my bed
is like a coffin
my body lies dead
asleep
in wait for my demise.

Daylight puddles
near the windowpane
spilling
into the room
splashing
over my face
caught
in a death mask.

Seconds pass
my face
softens
awareness returns
with random thoughts
cobwebs of dreams
swept clean
my eyes
open.

Sleep is so much like death, I often think about it.

The artwork, A Matter Of Life And Death by  Fay Collins is the prompt for today at dVerse~Poets Pub.

New Day

New Day

At first light, I wake up to a new day
ready to get up with the dew, day.

On TV, the news misconstrues, day
weeding out the fake news that’s untrue, day.

Stymied, I could use a breakthrough day
something to help me make do, day.

I feel like I’m stuck in a queue, day
the feeling is like deja vu, day.

Feeling down, you’re the one I turn to, day
you tell me you’re coming to woo, day.

I impatiently wait to see you, day
with you, it won’t be a blue day.

The calendar tells me it’s Tuesday
he’s here, so I bid you adieu, day.

We are trying a ghazal today at dVerse~Poets Pub. A new form for me.

Morning Mostly

Morning Mostly

Mostly mindless momentum
mirrored in myopic meanings
mediocrity maintained
making maelstrom moments
of a madcap morning.

Mornings can be fast and furious when getting out of the house for the day and I wanted to convey those feelings. For the artwork, I animated a photo of a cat yawning on a fence in front of a sunrise.
