Midnight Kata

Midnight Kata

It is midnight at the Dojo
and a lone figure is spotted
he moves as if on invisible strings
worked by a celestial puppeteer-
such fastidious movement.

Slowly circling, ever vigilant
as he spares with the shadows
a Praying Mantis on a leaf
watches with great concern-
in a rustle of silk, he is gone.

Written with my friends at dVerse~Poets Pub. The prompt is Unseen Things. My figure (who could be a Ninja) was only seen by a bug in the garden. This is my artwork I animated.

Dead Asleep

Dead Asleep

Every night
my bed
is like a coffin
my body lies dead
asleep
in wait for my demise.

Daylight puddles
near the windowpane
spilling
into the room
splashing
over my face
caught
in a death mask.

Seconds pass
my face
softens
awareness returns
with random thoughts
cobwebs of dreams
swept clean
my eyes
open.

Sleep is so much like death, I often think about it.

The artwork, A Matter Of Life And Death by  Fay Collins is the prompt for today at dVerse~Poets Pub.

Super Duper Blue

Super Duper Blue

The moon plays tricks
with a lunar eclipse
eyes to the skies
the full moon comes soon
twice this month is nice
number two is blue
tipping and slipping
under the earth’s umbra
invitingly in syzygy
this blood moon makes us swoon.

A Blue Moon is when two full moons happen in the same calendar month; lunar eclipses occur when the moon passes into Earth’s shadow; and supermoons happen when the moon’s perigee — its closest approach to Earth in a single orbit — coincides with a full moon. In this case, the supermoon also happens to be the day of the lunar eclipse.

The second full moon and the lunar eclipse will occur on the night of Jan. 30 or the morning of the 31st. And the supermoon will take place on the night of Jan. 30, which is technically one day before the moon reaches peak fullness, but even NASA is willing to call the event a supermoon nonetheless.

I watched it last night on my patio it was awesome! My picture isn’t great, but it’s the only camera I had. This was when the moon was fully eclipsed and blood orange.

Tick Tock

Tick Tock

Tick tock, tick tock,
goes the old hallway clock
hours pass across its face
numbers help to keep its place
having hands that point the way
telling me the time of day.

Tick tock, tick tock,
goes the bedroom alarm clock
telling me it’s time to sleep
lay me down, sweet dreams to reap
sleeping ‘way my precious time
woken by the nagging chime.

Tick tock, tick tock,
goes the workplace time clock
laboring my time away
always work and never play
sands of time keep fooling me
falling into entropy.

Too Many Thoughts

Too Many Thoughts

Slumbering in my bed
when suddenly I’m awake
I want to go to sleep
but now it’s just too late.

I hate when I can’t sleep
the things that cross my mind
the creeping thoughts intrude
I need an interlude.

Once my mind wakes up
the body has to follow
so here I sit alone
trying to write this poem.

Writing about insomnia with my friends at Imaginary Garden Of Real Toads. I used to have insomnia but I learned how to sleep better. This poem tells of a time when I used to get up and try to do something constructive when I couldn’t sleep. I read about how to sleep last year and found out it was something I had to work at like anything else worth doing in my life. I wouldn’t give it up for anything.

Impressions Of A View

Impressions Of A View

A base of periwinkle blue
covered with thick strokes of indigo
with smudges of powder blue,
a proposal.

I accept…
watching the colors
changing hues
as they run together
swirling and glowing
catching the last rays
of light at gloaming.

A base of bistre brown
covered in burlywood
with thick almond accents
dashes of citron here and there
along with dandelion yellow
covering the ground.

A few slate gray lines
with dark greens
hinting at boundaries
between tree and landscape
an impression soon washed out
by the black of night.
