Tuesday Lost

I woke up this Tuesday
it was foggy and gray
local news was boring
my cat was snoring
nobody around
there was not a sound
so I looked outside
as I tried to decide
just what I could do
on a day so blue.

Coffee broke my fast
but that didn’t last
fatigued to doom
I retired to my room
I picked up a book
to take a look,
“Beware,” it read,
“this will go to your head.”

I woke up this Tuesday
instead, it was Wednesday
just around dawn
as time had crept on
a most tedious day
literally slept away.

Sharing this poem from the past with Imaginary Garden With Real Toads on a Tuesday much like the one I wrote about in 2015. Photography of San Francisco under the weather by Gary Lo.

I want to ride my bike but the weather has been foggy and very windy for days on end. I anxiously wait for the wind to calm down in the mornings so I can enjoy my rides. Biking on the San Francisco Bay trails is a real downer when riding for miles into the wind.

Sdrawkcab Poem

My cat was begging to be fed
I brushed the cobwebs from my head
and when I got up from my bed
I did it backward style instead.

A backward world is what I found
my cat was making backward sounds
my room was backward all around
absurdly backward-so profound.

My cat was begging to be fed
as I awoke with certain dread
’twas just a dream I had instead
and sighing just went back to bed.

Casey Weldon is an American artist best known for his use of melancholy and humor in conjunction with the iconography of modern pop culture, leading his critics to designate his style as “post-pop surrealism.” He’s a Californian artist and I found this picture to use after I wrote my poem. Too Wrong

Too Wrong

They wanted something different
a pet that could talk to them
so into the lab the scientist went,
just what the hell did he invent?

They say 2 wrongs don’t make a right
combine them right and you just might
but when the babies came that night
they were not a beauteous sight.

The idea was dogs and humans cloned
the babies were ugly, clean to the bone
when one spoke up in a baritone,
“Which one of you will take me home?”

I recycled “Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone.” Dorthy Parker and “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

She can wash the clothes and hang ’em on the line
she can dress the children and make ’em shine
she feeds the pets and cares for you
yet he’s the one who wears the shoes.

She can look real pretty-she cleans up nice
you never have to ask her twice
her cooking wins at the country fair
yet he’s the one who drives her there.

She’s a real wonder woman she does it all
she does it all at his beck and call
empty inside, it pains me to say
this wonder woman has lost her way.

This picture reminds me of that song, “He brings home the bacon, she fries it up in a pan”, and then something about her man. A real balancing act, keep it up or fall!

My mother’s marriage (the 50’s) and her friends had husbands like this, talented women who gave it all up for marriage and kids. Even today women do it, I did this somewhat myself (the giving up of my career without the kids) and still have a little regret about it now. Today I am older, single and wiser; I like it that way.

Nine Lives

bekkiesbooboy

Nine Lives

watching the sunset
fog sneaks in over the bay
on tiny cat feet

under small bushes
the cat becomes a panther
silently stalking prey

ignored by a cat
nothing makes one feel
more rejected

contented purring
a peaceful heart
a happy cat

words left unspoken
leaves things broken
cat got your tongue?

coming in late
look what the cat dragged in
don’t blame the cat

stroking a cat
the best relaxation
a furry zen master

a cat has nine lives
we only go around once
make it count

a beloved cat
is man’s best friend
the dog would argue

often misunderstood
the true meaning of Christmas
can’t be bought or sold
yet pets and their owners
proud of those ugly sweaters
