Me On Muse

Me On Muse

I can’t escape my muse
it thrives on inspiration
it gobbles forms for fun
it’s in my perspiration.

If I don’t write with peers
I settle for the latter
my muse fulfills the need
it’s all that really matters.

And when there is no reason
I can always find the rhyme
shore it up and make it clever
shine it up and call it mine.

Roll With It

Roll With It

If I can just roll with it
go in the right direction
match the speed
learn to flow with it.

Stay the right shape
go real slow with it
watch so I don’t plateau
or be so-so with it.

No holding back
finally in the know with it
fitting in this time
so I can grow with it.

The Twist

The Twist

I took the bait
a twist of fate
there was too much
heaped on my plate
it’s now too late
to clean the slate
the twist it made
me turn to hate.
A real bad trait
I’m that low-rate
in a terrible state.

Silent Remains

Silent Remains

I found an old upright piano in a wet meadow
a shiny black crow clamored about
overhead lazy clouds floated in the bluest sky
while drops of water like scattered rhinestones lay
across patches of still waxed rosewood.

I climbed on top to investigate my treasure
many questions weighing on my mind
quizzically I pressed an ivory key with my toe
but it remained silent-guarding its secrets.

Collecting

Collecting

Coming into this world
someone inked my feet
placed them on a birth certificate
proof, of my identity.

When I was just a baby
I was put on my first pony
I cried when it was over
I had my first love affair.

Blank, like the paper in front of me
I was given a rainbow in a box
I crayoned my world with colors
no one could stop me.

Playing outside in the alley
I searched through the gravel
finding a glittering diamond
delighted, I pocketed it.

Starting school I learned to read
the Adventures Of Dick And Jane
outgrowing toys I picked up books
I started to write my own stories.

I fell in love with a wonderful man
we got married under an azure sky
after 20 long years we parted ways
the sorrow of that never left me.

I found a silver thimble when my father died
a professional wrestler, he embroidered
matadors, bulls and flowers on satin
it was too big for my finger.

One by one these memories I hoard
a collection of recollections of times reflected
a life spent experiencing every milestone
continuing until death will come to collect me.

The Moment

The Moment

I waited for it
just a tiny speck on the dim horizon.
As it finally reached it’s zenith
I saw you there in a blaze of clarity
your face etched with consequence.
Covering the warm embers of love’s beginnings
lost amongst the sad endings and ever afters
indulged way too much for my own good.
Until that moment.
