Romantic Keys

Romantic Keys

Going solo is never easy
he didn’t have time to orchestrate
their meeting impromptu
the right keys were struck
their lovemaking an improvisation
his technique professional-
yet expressive.

She called him a virtuoso
it was like a fantasy
he felt it was reminiscent of a song
delicate nuances were there
but he was unprepared for romance
he preferred to play solo.

I looked up Frédéric Chopin (because it was on the music sheet) and seeing the beautiful woman by the piano decided to use the words I found about him and his music for a “found poem.”

tanka #92017

deep within my soul
there’s an untouchable place
that only responds
to a different drummer
accompanied by steel strings

Different

We’re different it’s plain to see
if you say why I say I don’t know
I say it’s you, you say it’s me
if I say stay then you just go.

If I see you and say hello
you look at me and say goodbye
if I say high, then you say low
all I can ask is why, oh why?

I tell you yes, you say oh no
why must it always be this way?
When I say fast then you go slow
I say good-night you say good-day.

I don’t know why you say goodbye
our conversations make me cry.

Writing an English pop sonnet based on a popular song from my past with dVerse~Poets Pub. This band was very popular in the 60’s and I’d like you to guess but the answer is here. The artwork is one of my animations untitled.

Get Your Groove On

Get Your Groove On

Spinning the grooves to move
a shindig you can’t miss
shag carpeting pulled back
come on let’s do the Twist!

Don’t be a drip, come shake those hips
and get those feet to work
feel that booming bass entice
come on let’s do the Jerk!

Mini skirts and paisley shirts
new dances all the craze
when I get my groove on
it’s a Keep On Truckin’ day.

I felt like something light and fun this week so I’m sharing an oldie of mine about the oldies from Magpie Tales written for that dancing prompt I animated. Shared with my friends at dVerse~Poets Pub.

Early Crocus (Too Soon)

Early Crocus (Too Soon)

Deep in the earth it was time to wake
wake and bloom my place to take
sleeping all winter under the ground
waiting for spring so I could astound
sending out shoots for over a week
ready I was to have my first peek
slowly opening ready to show
only to find myself covered in snow!

I got this idea from the Crocus (which sometimes blooms through the snow) and this image from a Google search. The Crocus is one of my favorite flowers we used to have them in the backyard in Indiana and they always came up first.

This poem was picked to be in Chiaroscuro – Darkness and Light: Voices from poets, a dVerse~Poets Pub Anthology and I’m thrilled to announce that you can buy this book with my poem in it. Not just me, but 100 wonderful poets that I’ve written with for years. The book is on Amazon HERE.

Bent Broke And Busted-A Blues Song

~opening music~

~first stanza~

I am bent and broken
they have taken every bit
I’ve tried too many times now
I just can’t live with it.

~second stanza~

My lover left me flat
found her sleeping with my friend
the blues they cut me deep
it never seems to end.

~nice blues guitar~

~chorus~

Bent broke and busted
no money in the bank
no one left to love me
only me to thank.

~huge guitar solo/break~

~third stanza~

I’m looking to be found
but finding I’m just lost
aware of how I failed
and just how much it cost.

~music rally~

~chorus~

Bent broke and busted
no money in the bank
no one left to love me
only me to thank.

Bent broke and busted…
Bent broke and busted…

~fade out~
