World Under My Wheels

The world runs under my wheels
I watch it go by from my saddle
north, south, east, west
I ride whichever way I feel.

My peddling is rhythmic and even
like meditation, it moves me
from here to there I fly
I concentrate on my breathing.

My bicycle makes me feel blest
it doesn’t pollute or damage
people smile as they watch me pass
and I smile back refreshed.

Written for my friends at earthweal open link weekend #11. I decided on an upbeat new poem about something that always cheers me up.

That Glass Is Half ____

That Glass Is Half ____

When I see it, I want to say the water glass is half full
then I think about why I feel that way-
I don’t have a good answer…

I know it’s healthy to be optimistic
it’s less stressful and we live longer
I read it’s something that can be learned.

I know the answer lies deep within,
that unmeasurable amount of water mocking me
a need to please, even if it kills me.

I practice being grateful and positive
with the hopes of feeling optimistic
next time I’m presented with a glass of water.

I want to say the water glass is half full-
even when it holds spent Hydrangea blooms.
I don’t have a good answer…

“The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds, and the pessimist fears this is true.” ― James Branch Cabell

So Fair A Day

So Fair A Day

A saccharine breeze
tickling me
a sweet treat day
so happy and free.

Cotton candy clouds
and corn dog trees
so fair a day
made just to please!

The art is a series of pictures taken by James Graham and animated by me.

Taking a moment out of a beautiful day with the Imaginary Garden With Real Toads.

Unique

Unique

I like you cause you’re funny
intelligent and kind
good looking and hardworking
so distinctive, so refined.

I like you cause you’re honest
irreplaceable and rare
an exceptional type of person
the one who always cares.

I like you cause you’re different
it’s part of your mystique
you are just one of those people
so refreshingly unique.

Today is open link night at dVerse~Poets Pub and I’m sharing an older poem that could well be a greeting card for a friend. The image is an animation from a Google search.

These Moments I Hold Dear

These Moments I Hold Dear

Rolling away the passing years
it’s these moments I hold dear.

I will never have my fill
of watching wetlands as I glide
up and down the bayside hills.

My vintage bicycle as my guide
in the saddle time does fly
but I grow younger as I ride.

On my face you’ll find a grin
as nature heals my many ills
I find a wonderful peace within.

I feel renewed, I feel revived
all negativity left behind
I feel so good to be alive.

Rolling away the passing years
it’s these moments I hold dear.

The photo was taken on a bike ride and I put it through an art filter.

High Expectations

High Expectations

High in the sky
I sit and spy
I see a unicorn
floating by
as a rabbit
comes to play
they spin
and swirl
and move away.

High in the sky
I sit and spy
only eagles
soaring by
acrobatics
muscular wings
they dip
and dive
and my heart sings.

High in the sky
I sit and spy
expectations
running high
coming here
seeking peace
I feel the planet
loving me
a sweet release.

Written for the prompt “Rising Above” and linked with Poets United. With everything going crazy in this world today it’s good to find somewhere to reconnect with nature, to renew ourselves.

Photo found on a Google search: Preikestolen or Prekestolen is a famous tourist attraction in the municipality of Forsand in Rogaland county, Norway. Preikestolen is a steep cliff which rises 604 metres above the Lysefjorden.

Beneath A Tree

Beneath A Tree

When I sat beneath a tree
ruminating memories
something basic came to me.

Trees will never disagree
know the sum of one plus three
change their sexuality
or wonder whether they are free
own a home or property
or worry ’bout the world we see.

The smell of earth was heavenly
shadows fell like filigree
the quiet air of mystery
the bark that tells a history
all slowly growing peacefully
it made me thankful just to be.
