The Boom Boom Boom

The Boom Boom Boom

I feel the bass
############EXPLODING
through my body
###############with the boom
#########boom
###############boom.

As the electric guitar
##################SCREAMS
#######over the notes
of the opening song.

The music SMELLS
#####like an alleyway
in San Francisco

####where you get a BUZZ
########just by passing by.

The people stand
#####in lines
############waiting
at the venue
and the music
#############SPILLS
#################outside
into the streets.

So
#####singular
and beautiful
############the notes

#####as they CASCADE

###############down.

Bouncing
#########off the buildings
with the bass
############EXPLODING
########with the boom
##boom
########boom.

Cake

Cake

I was told there would be cake
a delicious flavor just for me
yet I grow tired of lingering
I’m crumbling into pieces
my life stale and tasteless.

I was told there would be cake
yet I find no sweet treat today
my kitchen sits spotless awaiting
the glorious gooey sticky mess.
Will I ever find that recipe again?

I was told there would be cake
as the years go by the craving grows
sitting alone at a table set for one
wondering if I’ll be left
holding an empty plate.

Picking a protest sign to write about linking with Imaginary Garden Of Real Toads. Divorced twice with no children I still dream of finding that special man to share the rest of my life with. That would take the cake and be sweet indeed.

Painted Ladies

Painted Ladies

Primary colors
bright painted places
all dressed to kill
with wooden faces.

Historic old homes
begging attention
just don’t ask their age
it’s a bone of contention.

Sitting so prettily
rows upon rows
ladies in waiting
in their best clothes.

Pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceuticals

A pill a pill to kill my ills
a magic potion just for me
once a day to make me chill
I take my tablets happily.

A pill a pill to kill my ills
a capsule for my aches and pains
my doctor has a special pill
for every sickness that I feign.

A pill a pill to kill my ills
a gel cap for my troubled brain
pills that rob me of my will
but next week I will still complain.

Our society has a pill for almost everything we can think of and a horrible problem with addiction. Sometimes the drug is worse than the illness and fills an emotional need rather than physical. Addiction hurts not only you but the people around you and impacts your life in a negative way. Just because they are easy to get doesn’t mean it’s ok to take them. Be strong!

Impressions Of A View

Impressions Of A View

A base of periwinkle blue
covered with thick strokes of indigo
with smudges of power blue,
a proposal.

I accept…
watching the colors
changing hues
as they run together
catching the last rays
of light at gloaming
swirling and glowing.

Ample spring green
splashed with light green
streaks of amber
applied on top
with banana yellow
layered in bitter lime
wet colors intermingling.

A base of bistre brown
covered in burlywood
with thick almond accents
dashes of citron here and there
along with dandelion yellow
covering the ground.

A few slate gray lines
with dark greens
hinting at boundaries
between tree and landscape
an impression soon washed out
by the black of night.

We are to paint a poem like an impressionist. Written with my friends at dVerse~Poets Pub.

Amusement

Amusement

Strapped in tight
slowly ratcheting uphill
violent accelerations
catapulted about
screaming laughter
G-force jerking
rickety wheels clattering
freefalling
arms flailing
pummeling winds
oscillating heart rates
wildly bobbing heads
sweaty fists grabbing
an emotional roller coaster
juddering…
to an end.

Amusement…
precise mechanical madness.

Writing about amusement parks with dVerse~Poets Pub. Nothing beats riding rides at a park and the emotions that bubble to the surface.

Different As Night And Day

Different As Night And Day

All the good and bad they weathered
night and daytime ruled together
then one day they had a fight
the moon got mad and shined too bright
it pushed the sun out of the way
and then decided to steal the day.

The jealous sun its anger bright
took back the daytime from the night
the Gods stepped in to end this fight
and straightened out this perilous plight
the moon felt sad the sun was lost
the sun felt bad that lines were crossed.

Now night and day ruled peacefully
while dusk and dawn meet frequently
the stars doth shine until the day
comes sauntering back to get its way
sun and moon now regulated
for all time they’re separated.

A blast from the past shared with my friends at Poets United. I originally wrote this for a friend, Cat whom I’ve known online for over 10 years, she likes these kinds of fantasies.
